We hold public meetings on the third Tuesday of each month to convene Ward 5 parents, teachers, school leaders, and other partners for in-depth topical discussions relevant to our advocacy for education equity.

In January 2022, the W5EEC hosted DC-CORE's Laura Fuchs and David Ifill, Digital Equity DC's Grace Hu, and Parents for COVID Safe Schools's Becky Reina to discuss consensus COVID safety measures for our schools.

November 16, 2021

In November 2021, the W5EEC hosted McKinley Tech counselor Fayola Welsh to discuss DC's Tuition Assistance Grant (DCTAG) program and other scholarship opportunities and strategies. Group questions and discussion included attention to alternative pathways for students who may not be ready for or want to go to college and the need to provide extra supports for students experiencing homelessness.

W5EEC

The W5EEC began as a collaboration among Ward 5 neighbors after being convened by Ward 5 SBOE Rep. Zachary Parker in April 2019.

The W5EEC seeks to work with other equity-missioned organizations in Ward 5 and throughout the city. In September 2019, W5EEC members met with leaders from Live Together, Learn Together.

The W5EEC seeks to learn from partners with expertise in particular subject matters, as well as from Ward 5 school leaders. In the past year, we have learned from leaders from the Black Swan Academy, Georgetown Juvenile Justice Initiative, Digital Equity in DC Education, and the DC Fiscal Policy Institute.
